Executive Summary

Henry Ford College received 28 visits across 22 service days in March 2026, with goose counts remaining low at an average of 1.5 per visit and a peak of 4. While active geese on the ground were consistently managed through hazing, technicians observed increasingly territorial behavior and suspected rooftop nesting activity on the L, E, and M Buildings, which warrants escalated monitoring heading into April.

  • 28 total visits conducted across 22 unique service days in March
  • Low average goose count of 1.5 per visit with a peak of 4 geese
  • Suspected rooftop nesting activity observed at L Building (Mar 6), E Building (Mar 25), and M Building (Mar 31)
  • Persistent pair repeatedly returning to Admin building zone despite repeated hazing
  • 11 of 28 campus zones reported goose activity, concentrated in the Admin-Quad-L Building corridor

Quad0 geeseDroppings: Low
Droppings concentrated over by cherry/oak tree. Some older. Some still green but frozen.
Tue, Mar 3, 2026Taylor Crews1
Roundabout Grass1 geeseDroppings: Low
Single goose sitting on the small hill by the roundabout, hazed off with pearl. It left the campus entirely, flying towards 153. Feces are entirely around the E building, looks like it's been here for an hour or so. No sign of his partner though, I checked all the best sites from last year but couldn't find a second goose
Wed, Mar 4, 2026Matt Booker0No geese on quad
Wed, Mar 4, 2026Taylor Crews2
Admin2 geeseDroppings: Low
Pair resting in the plant beds next to the admin entrance. I left pearl in the car and was able to get really close to them with the Umbredator, trapping them against the building. Feces look like they weren't here long
L Building0 geeseDroppings: Low
Very fresh feces here, likely from the pair resting at admin. Fresh feces were a 1-2, with additional older feces in the grass as well
Thu, Mar 5, 2026Taylor Crews2
F Building2 geese
Pair of geese between the F and E buildings, near the roundabout. Got out to haze with Umbredator but they took off as soon as they saw me
Fri, Mar 6, 2026Taylor Crews0
Quad0 geeseDroppings: Low
Some feces in the quad, mainly around the area with the slope by K building. All appear to be from midday yesterday or older. Nothing from today
Fri, Mar 6, 2026Taylor Crews3
L Building1 geeseDroppings: Low
Single goose grazing by the L building. I put on a few jackets and took the Umbredator. He let me get pretty close before I snapped it open. He then hopped several times around the L building, we probably circled the building three times before he finally left to 'hide' in an open parking lot where Pearl nailed him. I would be shocked if there wasn't a nest or late on the L building roof, I checked all the nearby plant beds but she's not on the ground. Feces are all fresh, looks like he's been there a few hours
Quad2 geeseDroppings: Moderate
Pair grazing at the top of the slope in the quad, with my jackets and Umbredator they let me get really close, but they were super sticky. I had to chase them until they were pinned by the wall at the bottom of the slope before they took off. At least one landed on the J roof, not sure if his mate circled back to join him. 3/5 of the feces are from today, including a few small rest piles. They've been comfortable in this spot for at least a few hours.
Mon, Mar 9, 2026Matt Booker2
Admin2 geeseDroppings: Low
Pair grazing just in front of building, droppings on sidewalk from this morning
Tue, Mar 10, 2026Taylor Crews2
Admin2 geeseDroppings: Low
Pair grazing near admin, right by the school road. Hazed with pearl on leash
Quad0 geeseDroppings: Moderate
No geese, some feces on the quad near K building that look like they're from the weekend, but nothing fresher than that
Tue, Mar 10, 2026Matt Booker2
Lineman Area2 geese
Pair in here, flew off when I got out of car with Spot. May have landed on a building. No other geese upon walking campus
Wed, Mar 11, 2026Taylor Crews4
Admin2 geeseDroppings: Low
Pair grazing by the admin building, hazed with Umbredator.
Quad2 geeseDroppings: Moderate
Pair grazing near the solar panels, hazed with Umbredator. Almost no feces from today, the vast majority is old and near the slope on the quad
Thu, Mar 12, 2026Taylor Crews0
L Building0 geeseDroppings: Moderate
No geese, but some pretty fresh feces in the grass around the L building, especially towards the back courtyard. Feces from today is a 1, the rest are from their previous frequent visits
Thu, Mar 12, 2026Matt Booker2
Lineman Area2 geese
In fenced area again, was able to get them to fly they landed on closest/lowest roof of building E
Fri, Mar 13, 2026Taylor Crews2
Admin2 geese
Grazing in front of admin. I put on a coat and hazed them with the Umbredator. I had to chase them around the building a few times before they finally went on the roof
Mon, Mar 16, 2026Taylor Crews4
Quad2 geeseDroppings: Low
Pair of geese by the solar panels, hazed with pearl on leash
North Parking Lots2 geese
Pair walking through the parking lot across from the welcome center. Hazed with pearl on leash
Tue, Mar 17, 2026Taylor Crews2
Admin2 geeseDroppings: Moderate
Very persistent pair by the admin building. Hazed off 3 different times, they just circle the property and come right back to the same place
Wed, Mar 18, 2026Taylor Crews2
C Building Lawn2 geeseDroppings: Moderate
The same pair, looks they've been camped out here for a while, all the feces there are from today. Hazed with Umbredator
Thu, Mar 19, 2026Taylor Crews2
E Building2 geeseDroppings: Low
Pair grazing beside the E building, right along the road to the maintenance parking, hazed with pearl on long line. Feces look like they hadn't been there long
Fri, Mar 20, 2026Taylor Crews4
Front Grass2 geese
Pair resting under a tree by the N building drive, hazed with spot on leash.
E Building2 geese
Pair grazing between the E building and the pond, hazed with spot on leash. They fled to the pond, hazed off with the paddleboard
Mon, Mar 23, 2026Taylor Crews0
Quad0 geeseDroppings: Low
No geese that I could find, but some pretty recent feces in the grass around the solar panels
Tue, Mar 24, 2026Taylor Crews0No geese on campus, and no fresh feces on the quad
Wed, Mar 25, 2026Taylor Crews2
E Building2 geese
Pair or more on the E building roof. I couldn't see them, but I could hear at least two different geese up there
Thu, Mar 26, 2026Taylor Crews2
Front Grass2 geeseDroppings: Low
Pair out in front of the N building, hazed with Umbredator.
Fri, Mar 27, 2026Taylor Crews0No geese or feces from last night or today. There is a pair grazing on the median near the admin building in the middle of evergreen
Mon, Mar 30, 2026Taylor Crews0No sign of geese
Tue, Mar 31, 2026Taylor Crews2
M Buildling2 geeseDroppings: Low
Pair around the M building near the bus stop. One was grazing, the other was on top of the M building roof. Possible nest up there? The one on the ground hopped around a bunch before flying to the K building roof, but it seemed very performative, like he was trying to get followed and keep our attention. The one on the roof was very quiet, and instead of walking back or moving to a different roof it just laid its head low and kept an eye on us

Analysis & Recommendations

Assessment and recommendations based on this reporting period.

Henry Ford College received consistent goose management coverage throughout March 2026, with 28 visits across 22 unique service days. The campus is dealing primarily with a persistent resident pair (possibly two pairs) that have been establishing territory, particularly around the Admin building, the Quad, the L Building, and E Building areas. Geese counts remained low -- averaging 1.5 per visit with a maximum of 4 -- but the pair's behavior is increasingly territorial and nest-seeking. Technicians noted sticky, reluctant-to-leave behavior on multiple occasions, with geese repeatedly circling back to favored spots after being hazed. Critically, on March 6, a technician suspected a nest on the L Building roof based on a lone male's defensive behavior. On March 25, geese were heard on the E Building roof, and on March 31, highly suspicious nesting behavior was observed at the M Building -- one goose lying low on the roof while the other performed distraction displays on the ground. The Quad continues to accumulate droppings from repeated visits, though active hazing is keeping geese from settling for extended periods. The campus core (Admin, Quad, L Building, E Building corridor) is the primary conflict zone, with the Lineman Area serving as an occasional secondary staging ground. Hazing tools deployed include the Umbredator, Pearl (dog, likely border collie), and Spot (dog), with paddleboard used for pond hazing. The late-March trend of rooftop use and possible nesting is the most significant development and warrants escalated monitoring.

Recommendations

  • Conduct focused roof inspections of the L Building, E Building, and M Building for active nests. The March 6, March 25, and March 31 observations all suggest nesting attempts on these rooftops. Early nest intervention (egg addling/oiling if permitted) will prevent gosling-stage complications.
  • Increase visit frequency to the Admin building zone, which saw the most persistent pair activity (6 zone reports). The pair hazed on March 17 returned three separate times in a single visit, indicating strong site fidelity that requires more aggressive deterrence.
  • Monitor the Quad solar panel area closely. Accumulated droppings (severity ratings of 3-5) indicate the geese are using this area heavily during off-service hours, particularly overnight and early morning. Consider visual deterrent placement near the solar panels.
  • Watch for gosling emergence in April, especially around the M Building and E Building rooftops. Once goslings hatch and descend, the management approach will need to shift from hazing to containment and family group management.
  • Continue dual-technician coverage pattern. Taylor Crews provided the majority of visits (24 of 28), supplemented by Matt Booker (4 visits). The afternoon visit timing is effective for catching daytime grazers, but an occasional early morning check could help assess overnight roosting patterns.
