Executive Summary

March saw a dramatic seasonal transition at Twin Beach Country Club, with zero geese during the first week while ponds remained frozen, followed by a sharp surge to 40 geese by mid-month as spring thaw opened water across the course. Intensive daily hazing with dogs, paddleboards, and lasers brought counts down through the second half of the month, though persistent pairs continued testing multiple zones.

  • 30 service visits conducted across 22 unique days in March
  • Average of 10.5 geese per visit with a peak count of 40 on March 18
  • Main Pond and Ponds Course emerged as primary hotspots with confirmed overnighting behavior
  • Clear seasonal pattern: zero geese weeks 1-2, surge to 34-40 mid-month, stabilizing at 2-23 by month end
  • No nests discovered; one "super sticky" pair near Main Pond flagged for April nest monitoring

Fri, Mar 6, 2026Taylor Crews0
Wooded Ponds0 geeseDroppings: Low
No geese, but a small amount of feces from yesterday afternoon or evening around the front wooded pond. Looks like 1-2 geese stopped here for a bit yesterday before moving on

All on the furthest back pond, hazed with pearl
Wooded Ponds4 geese
One pair per pond, hazed with pearl
Thu, Mar 19, 2026Taylor Crews25Still have geese everywhere but the number is coming down. They have some sort of mesopredator on property, two fresh gut piles and relatively fresh feces near the wooded ponds, my guess is coyote. There's also a section of fence along Bunker that got taken out by a tree, and it's open enough that a dog can get over it easily, gives better access to the very end of the course
Ponds Course6 geeseDroppings: Moderate
Three pairs around the furthest back pond
Tree Pond10 geeseDroppings: Moderate
8 on the tree pond, 2 on the more central pond
Tree Pond6 geeseDroppings: High

Mon, Mar 23, 2026Taylor Crews23
Ponds Course17 geeseDroppings: Moderate

Tree Pond7 geeseDroppings: Moderate
Grazing between the two ponds, hazed with pearl
Main Pond2 geeseDroppings: High
Very sticky pair, hazed with pearl and paddleboard. They came back within 15 minutes twice before leaving. Looks like those two and a few others overnighted here
Wooded Ponds2 geese
Another super sticky pair on the closer of the two ponds, had to get the paddleboard to chase them off. They tried landing just a bit further away, hazed with pearl
Tue, Mar 24, 2026Taylor Crews2No other geese seen on a drive by, and not enough time to do another full walk through
Main Pond2 geese
Pair on the main pond, hazed off with pearl and the boat.
Wed, Mar 25, 2026Taylor Crews4
Central Course2 geeseDroppings: High
Pair of geese on the puddle pond near the main pond. Hazed with spot off leash, but they're super sticky. I suspect these are the pair from last year that acted like they were going to nest all season and never did
Tree Pond2 geeseDroppings: Moderate
Pair grazing by the tree pond, hazed off with pearl
Wed, Mar 25, 2026Taylor Crews14Golfers are starting to come out of hibernation, so keep an eye out for them now when working the course.
Main Pond8 geeseDroppings: High
Four pairs grazing or sleeping (like heads tucked sleeping) around the main pond, hazed off with a few passes from pearl.
Tree Pond6 geeseDroppings: Moderate
Six all hanging out at a large puddle near the tree pond, hazed off with pearl
Thu, Mar 26, 2026Taylor Crews2
Central Course2 geese
Two geese on the puddle pond near the main pond. Hazed with spot off leash, but they're super sticky. I suspect these are the pair from last year that acted like they were going to nest all season and never did
Thu, Mar 26, 2026Matt Booker19
Main Pond2 geese
Closer to little overflow pond behind pump house, lasered off
Central Course2 geese
Under trees between holes roughly by the two wooded ponds, lasered off
Ponds Course15 geese
Broken into groups, 1 group of 3. A pair was on practice range and hopped this way multiple times before leaving fully. May be an undercount, group took off from way down at end as I got others off
Fri, Mar 27, 2026Taylor Crews2
Main Pond2 geeseDroppings: Low
Pair still on the little overflow pond near the main pond, hazed off with pearl. Super sticky, took a few runs to finally get them to leave
Fri, Mar 27, 2026Taylor Crews4The "goose manager" stopped me as we were pulling out of the parking lot because two pairs had just landed
Main Pond4 geese
Two pairs landed by the pond, hazed with pearl. They hopped around the practice course a few times before leaving
Fri, Mar 27, 2026Matt Booker0Surprisingly, no geese heard upon lasering course
Mon, Mar 30, 2026Matt Booker6
Main Pond2 geeseDroppings: Moderate
Hazed with minimal effort on lead
Ponds Course4 geeseDroppings: Low
One pair near W end of zone took off with no hazing, other pair at far end hazed with outrun
Mon, Mar 30, 2026Taylor Crews4
Ponds Course4 geeseDroppings: Moderate
Two pairs grazing by the furthest back pond. Hazed off with spot
Tue, Mar 31, 2026Taylor Crews10
Ponds Course6 geeseDroppings: Moderate
Three pairs grazing around the furthest back pond near bunker. Hazed them off with Pearl and the paddleboard (we entered over the downed fence). A lot of feces on the top of the hill, but it appears to be from the weekend or older. Feces from today is a 1-2. Looks like this group has just been hanging out around here, but it's only those 2-3 pairs
Wooded Ponds2 geese
Sticky pair hanging out not too far from the main pond. Hazed with pearl, they hopped a few times before leaving
Main Pond2 geese
Pair landed by the main pond while we were checking the wooded ponds. Possibly the pair hazed off the back course. They fled when they saw us walk up the hill

Analysis & Recommendations

Assessment and recommendations based on this reporting period.

Twin Beach Country Club experienced a clear seasonal transition during March 2026. The first week (March 2-6) saw zero geese on every visit, with ponds still fully frozen and significant snow cover across the course. As conditions warmed through the second week, the first geese appeared on March 9 with 4 birds at the Main Pond. A dramatic escalation occurred mid-month: by March 16-18, large flocks of 34-40 geese were recorded across multiple zones, with overnighting behavior confirmed at the Main Pond, Tree Pond, and Ponds Course areas. This surge coincided with spring thaw and pond ice breakup. The team responded with intensive hazing using dogs (Pearl and Spot), paddleboards, boats, and lasers. By the third and fourth weeks, geese counts began fluctuating between 2-23 per visit, suggesting the hazing pressure was preventing permanent establishment while migratory groups continued to test the property. The Ponds Course (furthest back pond near Bunker Ave) emerged as the most persistent hotspot, with 2-3 pairs consistently returning despite regular hazing. Several pairs were described as "super sticky," particularly around the Main Pond overflow area and the Wooded Ponds. Notable observations include breeding sandhill cranes on property, evidence of a mesopredator (likely coyote) with fresh gut piles near the wooded ponds, a section of fence along Bunker knocked down by a tree (providing easier access for dog hazing), and golfers beginning to return to the course by late March. The technician also identified a pair suspected to be the same one from the previous season that displayed nesting behavior without actually nesting. No confirmed nests were found during March.

Recommendations

  • Prioritize intensive hazing at the Ponds Course zone (furthest back pond near Bunker Ave) which has become the primary hotspot with consistent pairs overnighting and returning daily.
  • Monitor the "super sticky" pair near the Main Pond overflow pond closely for nesting behavior as April begins, given the technician's suspicion they may be the same pair that showed nesting tendencies last season.
  • Take advantage of the downed fence along Bunker Ave to improve access to the far end of the course for dog hazing, while assessing whether fence repair is needed for property security.
  • Increase visit frequency to twice-daily as the season ramps up, given the high geese counts (34-40) seen mid-month and the onset of golf season requiring cleaner conditions.
  • Begin nest searches in all zones, particularly around the Main Pond, Tree Pond, and Ponds Course areas where overnighting pairs have been documented throughout mid-to-late March.
  • Coordinate visit timing to be aware of golfer presence now that the playing season has begun, ensuring hazing operations do not conflict with course activity.
